Softball To Visit Delaware State This Weekend

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 7, 2022)--Morgan State travels to Dover, Del. this weekend (April 9-10) to face the Hornets of Delaware State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) softball series at DSU Softball Field.

The three-game series gets underway on Saturday, April 9 with a single-game at 2 p.m. and will conclude with a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.

Morgan State (15-13, 6-3 MEAC), which had its Wednesday doubleheader at Mount St. Mary's canceled due to inclement weather, last played on Sunday, April 3 in the finale against rival Howard. The Lady Bears would drop the contest to the Bison, 4-1 and lose the series, two-games-to-one. The series loss would be the Lady Bears' first MEAC series loss since the 2019 season.

The defending MEAC champion Lady Bears enter the Delaware State contest on a two-game losing skid and currently sit in a three-way tie for second in the league standings with Norfolk State and North Carolina Central, all with 6-3 conference records. Morgan State already defeated Norfolk State, winning two of the three games and holds the tie-breaker over the Spartans. The Lady Bears and North Carolina Central will meet in the final weekend of the MEAC regular season (April 30-May 1) in Baltimore, Md.

Delaware State (3-21, 2-7 MEAC) enters the weekend tied for sixth in the league standings with South Carolina State. The Hornets were also slated to play on Wednesday at home against Cornell, but the game was canceled.

The Hornets are coming off a three-game series loss at North Carolina Central (April 2-3), including 8-1 in the series finale.

Last season the Lady Bears and Delaware State met four times under the MEAC's divisional play setup, with Morgan State winning all four contests, including two shutout wins. The Lady Bears have won 11 straight over the Hornets and have held them scoreless in eight of those victories dating back to 2017.
