Rachal Named MEAC Player and Rookie Of The Week

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 20, 2022) ⏤ Morgan State freshman Niles Rachal was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Tennis Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today, as well as Rookie of the Week.

Rachal's recognition marks the third time that he's been named the conference's top rookie as he also earned the honor (March 23 and April 6). This is also his first time being named Player of the Week.

Rachal was 3-0 in singles play last week, starting with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Bloomsburg's Fernandos Barros at No. 3 singles. He then defeated Oscar Hernandez of James Madison at No. 4 singles, before closing out the week with a conference win over Coppin State's Luka Markovic, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Rachal's week also included a doubles win over Bloomsburg.

The Woodstock, Georgia product has a 11-2 overall record in singles play and has won his last nine matches and is a perfect 4-0 in conference play. 

Morgan State will conclude the regular season with they return to action in non-conference play on Saturday, April 23, to host the Duquense Dukes. First serve is set for 4 p.m. at the MSU Tennis Courts and will mark "Senior Day" for the Bears.
