Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. (April 16, 2022)--Morgan State wrapped up the 2022 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) regular season with a 4-1 victory over crosstown rival Coppin State on Saturday. The match was shortened by rain.
Doubles (2,3,1)
Morgan State would win two of the three singles matches to earn the doubles point.
Averiana Mitchell and
Stefania Moysiadi won their No. 2 doubles match over Coppin's duo of Kristina Georgieva and Lucia Placidi, 6-3.
Anabel Aran and
Hannah Smith recorded a No. 2 doubles victory over Cristy Turner and Mackenzie Jones of Coppin State, 6-3 to claim the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead.
Morgan State's No. 1 team of
Nolwenn Cardoso and
Asmara Rose fell to Iva Jankovic and Megan Etienne, 6-4.
Singles (3,4,2,1)
Morgan State increased its lead to 3-0, following wins by Cardoso at No. 3 singles and Aran at No. 4. Cardoso defeated Placidi 6-1, 6-1 and Aran defeated Turner 6-2, 6-0.
The Lady Bears secured the win when Smith defeated Georgieva 6-4, 6-2 in a No. 2 singles contest to put the Lady Bears up 4-0.
Coppin State's lone singles victory came at the No. 1 spot, where Jankovic beat Mitchell 7-5, 6-1.
The match would be stopped by rain before the No. 5 and No. 6 singles contests were finished. Rose was leading Etienne 6-4 at No. 5 and Moysiadi led 6-2, 3-0 over Jones at No. 6 at the time of stoppage.
"It feels good that both my team and I won," said Smith. "We feel confident going into MEACs."
Next Up
Morgan State will conclude the regular season on Sunday, April 17 when it hosts local foe Johns Hopkins for a non-conference match at 1 p.m. at the MSU Tennis Courts.
