NORFOLK, Va. (April 18, 2022)--Morgan State sophomore Anaya Hunte was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola on Monday. It was the second consecutive week and the fourth overall honor for Hunte, who also garnered the honor on March 7, March 21 and April 11.
 
Howard senior Kalita Dennis was named MEAC Softball Player of the Week, while Norfolk State's Kenna Higa and Howard's Lealani Ricks were named MEAC Rookie of the Week.

Hunte, who went 3-0 for the week with an ERA of 0.38, made Morgan State history, when she threw the program's first perfect game, while also breaking the school's strikeout record with 16 and recorded her first-ever career no-hitter in a win at Delaware State (4/13). Hunte set the previous school record of 13 strikeouts earlier this season against Coppin State. Hunte struck out the first 10 Delaware State batters she faced and struck out the side four times.
 
Hunte struck out six batters and allowed two hits in a complete game shutout of Maryland Eastern Shore (MDES) in the series opener (4/15). She closed out the week surrendering two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk, while striking out six batters in the finale win over the Hawks (4/16).  
 
A native of Burlington, N.J., Hunte, who is on a four-game winning streak, improved to 11-3 on the season with the wins and has recorded a team-leading 96 strikeouts in 83 innings pitched.

The Lady Bears (20-13, 8-3 MEAC) are scheduled to host league-leader Maryland Eastern Shore in a crucial MEAC series this weekend at Lois T. Murray Field. The series gets underway with a doubleheader on Friday, April 15 starting at 1 p.m. and will conclude with a single-game on Saturday, April 16 at noon.
