BALTIMORE, Md. (April 1, 2022)--The Morgan State softball team will welcome Beltway rival Howard this weekend for a three-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series at Lois T. Murray Field. The action begins on Saturday, April 2, with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and concludes on Sunday with a single-game at 12 p.m.
Â
Last season under the league's divisional play set-up, Morgan State and Howard split the four-game series in Washington, D.C., each winning two games. The Bison won the opener, 5-4 in nine innings, and Morgan State responded to win the next two contests, 7-2 and 5-0. Howard concluded the series with another extra inning victory, taking the finale 5-3 in 11 innings.
Â
Morgan State (14-11, 5-1 MEAC) enters the weekend coming off a doubleheader split at crosstown foe Towson on Wednesday. The Lady Bears dropped the opener to the Tigers, 3-2 then claimed a 12-3 victory in six innings in the nightcap.
Â
The Lady Bears' win ended a two-game losing skid to Towson and was just the second home loss this season for the Tigers in seven games. Morgan has now won four of the past six meetings against Towson.
Â
Howard (12-18, 3-2 MEAC), which currently leads the league in batting average (.292), is coming off a doubleheader sweep of Coppin State (3/26). The Bison won the first game 12-0 in five innings and then earned a 10-3 victory in the nightcap. Sunday's finale against the Eagles was postponed.
