Women’s Tennis Sweeps Harford For First Win Of Season

Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. (March 6, 2022)-24 hours after suffering a disappointing home loss to Georgetown, which Morgan State head coach Matthew Townes stated "wasn't a great showing for us," the Lady Bears earned their first win of the season, knocking off Harford Community College, 7-0 on Sunday at the MSU Tennis Courts.
 
The Lady Bears improved to 1-5 on the season, while Harford fell to 0-2.
 
"The ladies bounced back very well today. They played hard and for each other, and as a coach, that's all you can ask for," said Townes. "Very happy to get the first win of the season."
 
Doubles
Morgan State jumped out to a 1-0 lead by winning both doubles matches that were played. Averiana Mitchell and Asmara Rose earned a 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles over the Owls' Anna Holway and Lily Holtschneider, 6-0.
 
Stefania Moysiadi and Anabel Torrente then defeated Natalia Calvo-Herrera and Caroline Novak, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot to claim the two doubles matches.
 
No. 3 doubles did not play.
 
Singles
Morgan State would then lose just one point in the five singles matches played. Nolwenn Cardoso earned a straight sets victory over LilyTsomos 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Ana-Lei Kalawe also picked up a straight sets shutout victory at No. 2 singles over Holway, while Anabel Torrente also earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Holtschneider at No. 3 singles to give Morgan State a 5-0 lead.

The Lady Bears wrapped up the scoring with Mitchell defeating Calvo-Herrera 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot and Rose then defeated Novak in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 4. 

Next Up: The Lady Bears will travel to Elon, N.C. this Sunday, March 13 to take on host Elon at 2 p.m.
