Men’s Tennis Tops Harford C.C., 6-1

BALTIMORE, Md. (March 6, 2022) – The Morgan State men's tennis team defeated Harford Community College, 6-1, in a non-conference match Sunday at Morgan State Tennis Courts.
 
The Bears (3-3) picked up the doubles point and never looked back, building a 5-0 lead before the Fighting Owls (1-1) took a match. Rhajzhon Rankins clinched the victory, following the efforts of Mikeal Carpenter and Nihit Rawal.  Carpenter, Rawal and Rankins each won twice on the day. 
 
"Our men played hard today," said MSU coach Matthew Townes. "I thought we might have a letdown after yesterday's match, but the guys were able to recover emotionally and physically and get another hard-earned victory." 
 
"This weekend was exactly what this program needed."

Singles (1,3,2,6,5,4)
Five of six singles first sets went the way of the Bears. Carpenter won his third match of the season as he posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory on court 1.
 
Rawal recorded a 6-3, 6-0 victory against Pablo Poleo on court 3, and Rankins finished moments later with a 6-1, 6-1 result versus Mathius Dessureau.  
 
Sebastian Lopez dispatched of Alexander Carlsson by a 6-0, 6-1 score on court 6.
 
Harford got on the board when Paulo Reis Jr. topped Martial Kawunde on court 5, 6-4, 6-1. The Bears would answer with the final win of the day however, as Niles Rachal outlasted Côme Bulté, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5). 
 
Doubles (3,1,2)
The Bears clinched the doubles point with wins on courts one and three.
 
Nihit Rawal and Mikeal Carpenter recorded a 6-2 win against the pairing of Filip Bazant and Mathius Dessureau.
 
Niles Rachal and and Rhajzhon Rankins claimed a shutout victory, 6-0, from court three against Come Bulte and Tinashe Whata.  

 
Next Up:
Morgan State (3-3) returns to action when they travel to take on Elon on Sunday (March 13). First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
