Men’s Tennis Stumble at Elon, 6-1

ELON, N.C. (March 13, 2022) — Morgan State men's tennis suffered a 6-1 setback against Elon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center in Elon, North Carolina. The Bears fall to 3-4 overall this year, while the Phoenix improved to 7-4 and posted its fourth consecutive home victory.

Singles (1,2,3,4,5,6)
Kyle Frankel led the way for Elon in singles play, sweeping Mikeal Carpenter 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 position. Carpenter sits at 3-3 overall this year and 2-3 in No. 1 singles.
 
Daniel Martin clinched the match for the Phoenix, defeating Rhajzon Rankins 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 3 spot. The win was the six straight for Martin as he sits at a team-best 7-2 in singles play for the Phoenix, including a perfect 6-0 mark in the No. 3 spot.
 
Nicholas Campbell shutout Makkijha Brown 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. 
 
Camilo Ponce outlasted Nihit Rawal 6-2, 1-6, 10-4 in a three-set battle. Rawal sits at 3-4 for the season and in 3-0 in No. 3 singles.
 
Ben Zipay rounded out the singles wins for Elon, taking down Sebastian Lopez in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. 
 
Niles Rachel rallied and held on to defeat Nicholas Condos, 5-7, 6-0, 10-6, at No. 6 singles. The victory improved Rachel's singles record to a team-best 4-2 for the season. 
 
Doubles (2,1,3)
The combination of Campbell and Nicholas Condos clinched the doubles point in the match, beating Carpenter and Rawal 6-2 in the No. 1 position. The loss moved the duo to 4-3 for the season.
 
The tandem of Frankel and Zipay got the ball rolling for Elon in doubles play, making quick work of Lopez and Martial Kawunde 6-1 in the No. 2 slot. 
 
Next Up:
Morgan State returns to action when they travel to Greensboro (N.C.) to face the Aggies of North Carolina A&T on Wednesday, March 16. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
