Jackson Wins Long Jump Title At Weems Baskin Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. (March 27, 2022)--Morgan State's Tia Jackson captured the long jump finals title with a leap of 19-feet-5.25 inches (5.92m) at the Weems Baskin Invitational (March 25-26) hosted by the University of South Carolina at the Sheila and Morris Cregger Track.
 
Jackson's performance was one of seven top-10 finishes over the weekend for the Lady Bears' track and field team.
 
On the track, Destiny Thompson ran a time of 12.28 seconds to place fourth in the 400 meter dash.
 
Jalissa Emmens and Yasmine George finished sixth and eighth in the 400 meter dash. Emmens crossed the line in a time of 58.41 seconds, while George was clocked at 58.90 seconds.
Rachel Field placed fourth in the 3000 steeplechase, finishing the race in a time of 12:08.58.
 
Aside from Jackson's long jump victory, Morgan's field events team also had some strong performances. Johnelle Johnson placed fourth in the shot put with her toss of 43-feet-6.00 inches (13.26m).
 
Ishana Asinor recorded a height of 10-feet-1.25 inches (3.08m) to finish in a seventh-place tie in the pole vault.
 
The Lady Bears will be back in action this weekend when they compete in the Towson Invitational (Friday, April 1-Saturday, April 2), hosted by Towson University.
