Hunte Earns Second MEAC Pitcher Of The Week Honor

NORFOLK, Va. (March 21, 2022)-Morgan State sophomore Anaya Hunte was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola on Monday. It was the second honor for Hunte, who also garnered the honor on March 7.

North Carolina Central's Jayla Barr was named MEAC Softball Player of the Week, while Norfolk State's Kenna Higa was named MEAC Rookie of the Week.

Hunte went 2-0 with one save in five appearances for the week, helping the Lady Bears to a 4-1 mark. Hunte finished with an ERA of 2.33, totaling 19 strikeouts in 15.0 innings pitched, allowing five runs on 10 hits and four walks.

A native of Burlington, N.J., Hunte threw a school-record 13 strikeouts, while surrendering just one hit in a complete game shutout win in the nightcap of the doubleheader against Coppin State.

The Lady Bears (10-8), winners of four straight, return to the field on Tuesday, March 22 when they host Siena in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is at 1 p.m. at Lois T. Murray Field.
