Men’s Tennis Close Out Day 3 of MEAC Round-Up With Win

CARY, N.C. (March 19, 2022) -The Morgan State men's tennis team wrapped up its Spring Break trip to North Carolina and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Round-Up with a tough 5-2 victory over North Carolina Central on Saturday at the Cary Tennis Park.
 
The Bears, who concluded the round-up with a 2-1 mark against the league's southern region teams, improved to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the MEAC. North Carolina Central dropped to 3-12, 1-2 in the MEAC.

Singles (6,2,1,5,4,3)
After losing the double point, the Bears answered by winning five of six singles matches to rally for the victory.
 
Mikeal Carpenter scored a 6-4, 6-2 win against Miles Clark on court 1. Rhajzon Rankins outlasted Amit Baran on court 3 with a 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) victory.
 
Nihit Rawal  posted a 6-2, 7-5 win against Oliver Saarinen on court 4, and Niles Rachel added a 6-1, 6-3 win against Shaka Cristellotti on court 5.

Sebastian Lopez beat Ivan Pauluychenko, 6-0, 6-4, on court 5. Lopez improves to 6-3 overall this year, 3-0 in conference play and 4-1 in No. 6 singles.

Sebastian Pino netted the lone singles win for the Eagles by posting a 6-2, 6-1 win over Makkijha Brown on court 2. 
 
Doubles (2,3,1)
Miles Clark and Amit Baran held on to secure the doubles point with a, 7-6 (7-5), win against the pairing of Nihit Rawal and Sebastian Lopez in the tiebreaker on court 1.
 
Doubles play started with Niles Rachal and and Rhajzhon Rankins claiming a 6-3 vitory on court 2 against Oliver Saarinen and Sebastian Pino. It marked the fifth consecutive win for the duo who now boast a 7-1 record in doubles play.
 
The Eagles responded when Shaka Cristellotti and LaQuon Gilchrist pulled out a 6-4 win against Mikeal Carpenter and Martial Kawunde on court 3.

The Bears return to action on Thursday, March 24 when they visit Loyola Maryland at 3 p.m.
