Men’s Tennis Overcomes Loyola, 5-2

BALTIMORE, Md. (March 24, 2022) – The Morgan State men's tennis team jumped out to an early lead before eventually securing the overall win, knocking off the Loyola Greyhounds by a 5-2 score on Thursday afternoon at McClure Tennis Courts. 
 
The Bears improved to 6-5 overall for the season, while Loyola fell to 3-3.

Singles (1,2,3,4,5,6)
Mikeal Carpenter opened singles action with a 7-5, 6-4 win against Skyler Gates on court 1.
 
The Greyhounds responded with a pair of wins to even the match when Edik Pribitkin captured a 6-2, 6-1 win against Makkijha Brown on court 2, followed by Matt Cardano outlasting Rhajzon Rankins on court 3 with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-6) victory.
 
The Bears reeled off three straight singles decisions to notch the non-conference win.
 
Nihit Rawal  got back in the win column by posting a 6-3, 6-1 win against George Cavo on court 4, and Niles Rachal, the reigning MEAC Rookie of the Week, added a 6-4, 6-0 win against Liam Rompere on court 5. 

Finally, on court 6, Sebastian Lopez produced a convincing win by beating Ryan Boland, 6-1, 6-4. Lopez improves to 7-3 overall this year and 5-1 in No. 6 singles.

Doubles (1,2,3)
Rhajzon Rankins and Niles Rachal held on to secure the doubles point with a, 7-5, win against the pairing of Liam Rompere and Oliver Davey in the tiebreaker on court 3. The dynamic duo now boast an 8-2 record in doubles play.
 
Doubles play started with Nihit Rawal and Mikeal Carpenter earning a 6-3 win on court 1 against Skylar Gates and George Cavo.  
 
The Greyhounds evened the score when Edik Pribitkin and Matt Cardano posted a 6-3 win against Sebastian Lopez and Martial Kawunde on court 2.

The Bears return to action on Tuesday, March 29 when they visit the Bloomsburg Huskies at the Burke Reese Tennis Center.
