BALTIMORE, Md. (March 18, 2022)-Fresh off a non-conference split at George Mason on Wednesday, the Lady Bears' softball team will finally play in the friendly confines of Lois T. Murray Field this weekend (March 19-20) for the first time this season.
Morgan State (7-8), the defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) champions, will welcome crosstown rival Coppin State (0-16) for both its home and MEAC openers. The three-game series gets underway with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, March 19 and concludes with a single game on Sunday at noon.
I am excited to be on our field again. It feels like we have been waiting forever to play a home game and it is finally here," said senior outfielder
Aliya Ewell. "I believe we will defend our title and win the MEAC title because e are the best team. I believe playing Coppin State will be a great conference opener and we are looking to sweep."
Last season under the league's divisional play setup, the Lady Bears won three of the four meetings on the road against Coppin State in the final week of the MEAC regular season.
During the series, Morgan State claimed the No. 1 seed in the MEAC Northern Division, following a 2-1 victory in the opener. After dropping a 1-0 decision in the nightcap, the Lady Bears responded the next day with an 11-2 thumping of the Eagles in Game 3 to capture the program's second MEAC Northern Division crown. Morgan then finished off the series with a 5-2 win in the finale.
