Men’s Tennis Come Up Short on Day 2 of MEAC Round-Up

CARY, N.C. (March 14, 2022) — Morgan State men's tennis suffered a 4-2 setback against South Carolina State on Friday at the Cary Tennis Park. The Bears fall to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action.

Singles (6,5,2,3,1,4)
The Bulldogs opened singles play on court 6 as Diego Araluz dropped Martial Kawunde 6-1, 6-0.  
 
The Bears got on the board when Sebatian Lopez beat Ivan Pauluychenko, 6-0, 6-4, on court 5. Lopez improves to 5-3 overall this year and 2-1 in No. 5 singles.
 
On court 2, Rhajzon Rankins suffered a hard fought loss to Benjamin Niv, falling by a final score of 6-2, 7-6 (7-4). 
 
Nihit Rawal kept the Bears close by posting a 5-7, 6-0, 6-1 win against Aissa Benchakroun on court 3. Rawal improved 3-0 in No. 3 singles and is 5-4 for the season.
 
Rostislav Haflinger clinched the match for the Bulldogs, defeating Mikeal Carpenter 7-5 on court 1. 
 
Doubles (1,3,2)
Sebastian Lopez and Martial Kawunde dropped the doubles point on court 2 with a tough, 7-5, loss against the pairing of Rostislav Haflinger and Ivan Pauluychenko.
 
Mikeal Carpenter and Nihit Rawal opened doubles play with a 6-3 loss against Benjamin Niv and Aissa Benchakroun on court 1.

Niles Rachal and and Rhajzhon Rankins claimed a 6-4 win on court 3 against Pedro Sasso and Zhanger Almashey. It marked the fifth consecutive win for the duo who now boast a 7-1 record in doubles play.
