Men’s Tennis blanks Norfolk State in Day 1 of MEAC Round-Up

CARY, N.C. (March 17, 2022) – The Morgan State men's roared out to a 7-0 win over Norfolk State in the opening day of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Round-Up at the Cary Tennis Center.
 
The Bears (4-4, 1-0 MEAC) didn't drop a set, and won two of their matches without losing a game.

Singles (5,3,4,2,1)
Sebastian Lopez got the Bears off to a fast start in singles play as he dropped Jeremiah Zellander by a 6-0, 6-0 score on court 5.
 
Rawal recorded a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Ibrahim Abbas on court 3, and Niles Rachal shutout Roosevelt Brown, 6-0, 6-0 on court 4. Rachal won his third consecutive match and improves his singles record to 5-2 for season. 
 
Rankins battled to a 6-4, 7-5 victory against Hugo Massoni Lena on court 2, and Mikeal Carpenter finished off the match for the Bears on court 1 with a hard fought win against Federico Rebecchini, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5).  
 
Doubles (2,1)
Niles Rachal and and Rhajzhon Rankins claimed a shutout victory, 6-0, from court 2 against Roosevelt Brown and Ibrahim Abbas. It marked the fourth consecutive win for the duo who now boast a 6-1 record in doubles play.
 
Nihit Rawal and Mikeal Carpenter clinched the doubles point on court 1 with a 6-3 win against the pairing of Federico Rebecchini and Hugo Massoni Lena.
 
Next Up:
The MEAC Roundup continues Friday when the Bears prepare to face the South Carolina State Bulldigs.  First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Cary Tennis Center.
