Hunter, Jenkins and Robinson Earn MEAC Weekly Football Honors

BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 14, 2022) – Morgan State sophomore Erick Hunter has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Defensive Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference announced today.  Freshman Keith Jenkins Jr. earned Rookie of the Week and Hosea Robinson was named Specialist of the Week for their efforts in Morgan's Week 10 upset win versus Delaware State. 
 
North Carolina Central junior quarterback Davius was named MEAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week Delaware State wide receiver North Carolina Central sophomore Torricelli Simpkins III was named Offensive Lineman of the Week.


  
Hunter (LB, 6-4, 204, So., Capitol Heights, Md.) wreaked havoc throughout the day in the Bears' dominant win at Delaware State. He totaled 11 stops overall (10 solo), including 4.0 tackles for loss (totaling 17 yards) and two sacks. He also broke up a pass against the Hornets. Hunter currently ranks No. 5 in the conference with 73 total tackles (48 solo).
 
Jenkins (RS, 6-1, 185, Fr., Gainesville, Va.) showed again why he is one of the best kick returners in FCS (No. 5), picking his way through the Hornets and dashing down the right sideline to open the second half with a 90-yard kickoff return touchdown that gave the Bears a 23-7 lead in what ended up being a 37-7 win. The speedster is averaging 29.6 yards per kickoff return.

Robinson (DB, 5-10, 200, Jr., Waldorf, Md.) set the tone for the Bears early, blocking Delaware State's first punt of the game and picking the ball up for a 26-yard return for a touchdown. Morgan currently ranks No. 1 nationally in defensive TDs (7).

With the addition of Hunter, Jenkins and Robinson, the Bears have now had 10 players earn MEAC Player of the Week honors this season. Freshman kick returner Keith Jenkins Jr. was named Rookie and Specialist of the Week on Oct. 17, senior running back Alfonzo Graham was named MEAC Co-Player of the Week and junior center Dexter Carr Jr. was named Offensive Lineman of the Week on Oct. 10. Junior linebacker Lawrence Richardson was named the Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 19 and graduate student quarterback Carson Baker was named Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 3.
 
Morgan (4-5, 2-2 MEAC) will look to wrapup the 2022 season in the win column when they host Beltway rival Howard. Kickoff at Hughes Stadium is set for 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 19. The contest will be streamed live by ESPN3 and broadcast by WEAA, 88.9FM.
