BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 15, 2022)--The Morgan State volleyball team concluded the first half of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) slate with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-20) loss to Maryland Eastern Shore (MDES) on Sunday afternoon at Hill Field House.

The loss was the fifth straight for the Lady Bears, who fell to 2-19, 1-6 MEAC. Meanwhile, the visiting Hawks, who avenged an early season non-conference loss to Morgan State, improved to 5-13, 3-4 MEAC.

Nkemjika Ikemefuna led the guests with a match-high 10 kills, while Charlize hit .538 and recorded seven kills. Isil Yilmaz had a match-high 13 digs and a team-high three service aces for the Hawks, who have now won four straight MEAC contests over Morgan State. Sophia Chacon finished with a match-high 18 assists.

The Lady Bears were led by
Madison Grace and
Jadyn Perkins, who each had seven kills.
Tyasia McDuffie collected 10 digs, while
Trinity Carruthers totaled 17 assists and seven digs. Grace and
Mackenzie Jefferson each finished with a match-high three service aces.

MDES would finish with 33 kills on 97 attempts and committed 20 errors for a hitting percentage of .134. The Lady Bears totaled 28 kills on 95 attempts and committed 20 attack errors to hit .084 for the contest.

Both squads recorded 6.0 blocks. Williams led the Hawks with a match-high four blocks, including two solos. Morgan State was led by
Melanie Battle,
Justyus Jackson and Perkins all totaled three assisted blocks. Jackson is now four blocks away from reaching 100 for her Morgan career.

Morgan State Morgan State will begin the second half of the MEAC schedule on the road, when it travels to Durham, N.C. this weekend to face North Carolina Central on Friday, Oct. 21. First serve is at 6 p.m. Morgan State will then travel to Orangeburg, S.C. to visit the Bulldogs of South Carolina State on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m.
