Women’s Track & Field Places Second At HBCU Showcase

Three Lady Bears set personal bests and win gold

NEW YORK, N.Y. (Jan. 17, 2022)-The Morgan State women's track and field team began the 2022 portion of their indoor schedule on Saturday at the Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) Showcase at The Armory Track and Field Center in New York.
 
The Lady Bears would finish second overall in the team standings after recording 15 top-10 finishes, including three individual champions.
 
Howard claimed this year's team title with 189 points, while Coppin State placed third with 65 points.
 
Two of Morgan's individual champions came in the field events, as Miazziah Rose captured the triple jump with a personal best mark of 39-00.25. Terine Lambert would set a personal record in the shot put with a toss of 41-02.25 to win gold.

Rose Johnelle Johnson (35-08.50) and Jannah Sharpe (29-05.25) would finish fifth and ninth,   respectively in the shot put.
 
 Sharpe would also place fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 47-07.00, while Johnson   finished sixth with a throw of 46-00.75. Lambert placed seventh with a toss of 42-08.25.
 
 Aylexus Leshay finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 15-11.50.
 
 On the track, Alliayah Ottley won the 60 meter hurdles championship, setting a person record in   a time of 8.73 seconds.
 
 Aaliyah Harris placed second in the final of the 60 meter dash, crossing the line in 7.69   seconds. Harris would also place sixth in the 200 meter dash in a time of 25.39 seconds.
 
 Jalissa Emmens ran a time of 2:28.90 to finish sixth in the 800 meter run, while Jessica Lamborn came in eighth at 2:32.38. 
 
Yasmine George placed ninth in the 400 meter dash in a time of 1:01.04.
 
The Lady Bears' 4X200 relay team was clocked at 1:46.43 to finish third.
 
Morgan State returns to the track on Saturday, Jan. 29, when it travels to State College, Pa. to compete in the Sykes & Sabock Challenge, hosted by Penn State.
