NORFOLK, Va. (May 4, 2021)-Morgan State sophomore
Deborah Hamilton was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, as announced by the league office on Tuesday. It is the first MEAC weekly honor for Hamilton.

North Carolina Central senior Kiara Hurley was named MEAC Pitcher of the Week, while North Carolina Central freshman Hailey Batista was named MEAC Rookie of the Week.

Hamilton helped Morgan State to a 5-1 week with a non-conference doubleheader sweep of Bowie State, followed by three out of four wins over rival Coppin State in the MEAC regular season series finale.

The Killeen, Texas native, played in four games and batted .714 with five hits, including two triples, three runs batted in and three runs scored. She also had two stolen bases on two attempts and tied for the team lead with nine total bases.

Hamilton hit .750, going 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base in the series finale against Bowie State (4/28). She then batted .667 with two hits and two RBIs in the final MEAC regular season game against rival Coppin State (5/2).

The Lady Bears close out the regular season on Wednesday, May 5 when they play host to George Mason in a non-conference doubleheader for Senior Day. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. at Lois T. Murray Field.

Prior to the contest, Morgan State will honor its six seniors (
Maya McIntyre,
Meikel Turner and
Jalian Young along with graduates -
Haylee Bobos,
Damishah Charles and
Stephanie Rundlett), who will all be playing in their final collegiate home games at Lois T. Murray Field.
