Track & Field’s Thompson Selected To Attend NCAA Career In Sports Forum

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 26, 2021)-Morgan State junior track and field member Destiny Thompson has been selected to attend the 2021 NCAA Career in Sports Forum. The forum will take place May 26-28, 2021 virtually.

The career in sports forum will bring together selected NCAA student-athletes to learn about and explore potential careers in sports, particularly college athletics. This unique virtual programming experience will help student-athletes chart their career paths, while presenting copious opportunities for attendees to lean from current industry leaders.

"When I found out I was going to be participating in the forum, I was shocked," said Thompson. "I knew it was going to be hard to get in because it's schools from all over. I knew it was going to be very competitive."

"I'm looking forward to learning about and exploring potential careers in sports. I hope to take from the forum more leadership skills and ways to better myself so I can work with sports."

Attendees were nominated by their school or conference, and only junior and senior student-athletes are eligible to attend. Nominees must have participated in an NCAA-sponsored sport during the current academic year.

Participants will network with peers and decision-makers at the campus, conference and national level of college athletics. The following program objectives will be met:

● Educate participants on how personal strengths intersect with career opportunities.

● Provide participants with tangible experiences that will push them forward in their aspiration for a career in sports.

● Explore professional and career development strategies to help the transition to a career in the sports industry.

● Learn about the role of a college coach or athletics administrator.

A native of Nanjemoy, Md., Thompson's career aspiration is to work with athletes.

"I love being involved with sports. The last couple of weeks I've been going back to my high school and helping out my old coach," said Thompson. "That feeling of helping out and giving the kids advice that I didn't have feels so good. I definitely could do that forever."
