BALTIMORE, Md. (April 10, 2021)-The Morgan State softball team will travel to The Nation's Capital to face Beltway rival Howard in a four-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division series this weekend at the Nationals Youth Academy.

Morgan State will look to inch closer to claiming the division crown, it's first since 2018. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 pm, while first pitch on Sunday will be 12 pm.

MSU (11-7, 8-0 MEAC), which takes to the road for the first time in league play this season, will be searching for its first road victory in 2021. The Lady Bears are currently winless on the road, after going 0-4 during non-conference action.

The Lady Bears enter the Howard series riding a six-game winning streak, following a four-game sweep of visiting Delaware State last weekend at Lois T. Murray Field.

Morgan State extended its winning streak to 11 straight over the Hornets with eight of those victories coming by way of shutouts after junior pitcher Mikayla Barnard (6-2) earned back-to-back Game 2 shutout wins in the series.

Barnard would go on to receive MEAC Pitcher of the Week (4/6) for her performance. She finished with an ERA of 0.00, while surrendering 10 hits and a walk and struck out three batters in two games.

Freshman infielder Mia Ewell was named MEAC Co-Rookie of the Week. She batted .308 with four hits, four runs, two RBI, a walk and four stolen bases in the series.

Howard (9-10, 2-6 MEAC) has dropped four straight following a doubleheader loss at Drexel (4/8) by the scores of 10-6 and 6-1. The Bison dropped their last MEAC series at Norfolk State (3/20-21), losing three of the four contests.

Next up for Morgan State will be a trip to Orangeburg, S.C., to square off against the MEAC's Southern Division foes, as they take part in the MEAC Round-Up (April 16-18), hosted by South Carolina State.

First up for Morgan State will be a matchup against current MEAC Southern Division leader North Carolina A&T on Friday, before meeting host South Carolina State and Florida A&M on Saturday. The Lady Bears will conclude the weekend facing North Carolina Central on Sunday.
