Bears Cruise to 92-67 Win at Delaware State

DOVER, Del. (March 5, 2021) – De'Torrion Ware had a game-high 29 points and 10 rebounds as the Bears defeated Delaware State 92-67 on Friday afternoon at Memorial Hall in Dover, Delaware.

With the victory MSU improves to 12-6 overall and 7-4 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Bears also handed the Hornets its fourth straight loss and improve its series record against DSU to 62-42.

Ware came off the bench and shot 10-of-17 from the field and scored 19 of his game-high 29 points in the second half as the Bears cruised to its third victory of the season against the Hornets. It marked his eighth game of scoring 20 or more points and it was his second double-double of the season.

Senior forward Troy Baxter had 18 points, eight rebounds and a block. Junior Malik Miller finished with 13 points (5-10 FG). Junior guards Sherwyn Devonish and Trevor Moore pitched in 8 points each.
 
DSU (2-16, 0-11) was led on the afternoon by Dominik Fragala who tallied 25 points on 7-for-15 shooting and was perfect from the free throw line (8-8 FT). John Stansbury finished with 11 points and four rebounds, while Pinky Wiley added 10 points, six boards and six steals. 
 
The Bears did its share of damage on the glass where they held a 47-33 advantage and scored 23 points off of second chance opportunities.
 
Baxter got the Bears off to a fast start in the second half as he scored five points to push the lead to 47-30. Ware finished off a fastbreak with a two-handed dunk and hit two free throws to extend the lead to 60-39 as part of an 11-2 run. 
 
The Hornets turned up the tempo defensively and used an 8-2 spurt to trim the Bears lead to 62-47. However, it was as close as the Hornets would get. 

Morgan scored 50 points in the second half and finished the game by shooting 48.4 percent (31-64) from the field.

It was a back-and forth affair during the early going of the first half until Ware entered the ballgame after the first media timeout. The Hopkinsville (Ky.) product buried a 3-pointer and split a pair of free throws as part of a 15-2 run as the Bears took a 22-10 lead with just under 9 minutes left to play.

MSU's defense forced a number of turnovers as they held the Hornets scoreless for just over a 4 minute stretch.  

Fragala connected on back-to-back three-pointers to help pull the Hornets to within 28-21 at the 5:50 mark.
 
Malik Miller responded with a corner three to push the lead back to double-figures at 31-21.
 
Fragala scored 13 points (3-6 3FG) to keep the Hornets close despite DSU shooting just 36.7 from the floor and committing 12 turnovers. MSU held a 42-30 lead at the break.

NEXT UP:
The Bears will close out the regular season against Delaware State on Saturday (March 6). Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. at Memorial Hall in Dover. 
A win against the Hornets would guarantee Morgan a share of the MEAC regular season title.
