BALTIMORE, Md. (March 16, 2021)-The Morgan State women's track and field team began the 2021 outdoor season this past weekend competing at the Wendy's Navy Seahawk Invitational and the Wendy's Teal Seahawk Invitational hosted by the University of North Carolina-Wilmington (UNCW) at the Harold Greene Track & Field Complex.
During Friday's Wendy Navy Seahawk Invitational, the Lady Bears had 16 top 10 finishes.
Tia Jackson led the way capturing the 100 meter dash in a time of 12.16 and also winning the long jump with a personal best jump of 19-6.00.
Aaliyah Harris came in second in the 100 meter dash, while
Yasmine George (12.61) and
Alliayah Ottley (13.34) finished sixth and ninth, respectively.
Miazziah Rose ran a time of 27.02 to place seventh in the 200 meter dash and Ottley placed ninth with a time of 27.86.
Harris (59.15) and George (59.23) came in third and fourth, respectively, in the 400 meter dash.
Kimani Davis (1:01.00) and
Dejah Tinsley (1:01.98) came in seventh and ninth.
Morgan State's
Rachel Field came in second in the 5000 meter run, crossing the line in a time of 19:54.17.
Michelle Kamara finished sixth in the 800 meter run at 2:32.21.
In the field, Rose had a leap of 16-11.25 to finish fifth in the long jump.
Aylexus Leshay jumped 16-07.00 to place seventh and Ayannah Henry was 10
th with a mark of 15-09.75.
On Saturday, Morgan State returned to UNCW's Harold Greene Track & Field Complex this time for the Wendy's Teal Seahawk Invitational, which had a variety of other events that weren't featured in Friday's meet, and again had a total of 16 top 10 finishes.
Tia Jackson, who captured first the day before in the 100 meter dash, placed third on Saturday with a time of 12.28.
Aaliyah Harris was clocked at 12.69 to finish seventh and
Kimani Davis finished in a time of 13.26 to place 10
th. Harris would also place fifth in the 200 meter dash, finishing in a time of 25.88.
Rachel Field ran a time of 5:12.54 to finish sixth in the 1500 meter run, while
Michelle Kamara placed ninth in the 400 meter dash, crossing the finish line in a time of 1:01.87.
Morgan State's 4X400 meter relay team of
Kimani Davis,
Michelle Kamara,
Dejah Tinsley and
Yasmine George finished third in a time of 4:01.17. The team of
Micaela Fleetwood,
Alliayah Ottley,
Miazziah Rose and
Jalissa Emmens ran a time of 4:27.98 to finish ninth.
In the field events, the Lady Bears'
Jaida West finished fourth in the shot put with a mark of 37.04.00.
Jannah Sharpe had a toss of 30-08.25 to place eighth. Sharpe also finished sixth in the hammer throw with a throw of 153-07.00.
Jaida West had a personal best throw of 129-04.00 in the hammer throw and came in 10
th. West would also place eighth in the discus throw, recording a mark of 95-11.00.
Miazziah Rose had a height of 5-01.00 in the high jump to finish fifth, while
Micaela Fleetwood placed seventh with a height of 4-07.00.
Aylexus Leshay came in seventh in the triple jump with a jump of 36-02.25.
"It was great to have the team back on the track after being away from campus for so long and having that year-long break from competition," said Morgan State head track and field coach
Neville Hodge. "The meet was a starting point for us and we look forward to our progress in training and keeping the athletes healthy week after week."
