Five Bears Named ITA All-Academic Scholar Athletes

MSU also earns the ITA All-Academic Team honor.

BALTIMORE, Md. (July 27, 2020) -- The Morgan State men's tennis team had five (5) individuals listed among the 2020 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's All-Academic Scholar Athletes, the organization announced Monday.
 
Represented on the squad were senior Nihit Rawal, juniors Oguzhan Ceylan, Cem Erturk, Serhii Kharchev and Sebastian Lopez.   
 
"It's such an honor and an amazing feat for our men's team to continue to dedicate themselves to academics no matter the circumstance or the learning experience," stated MSU head coach Matthew Townes.  "I'm so proud of be their coach."

In 2020, 979 Division I Men student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and 186 men's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria:
                1.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and
                2.) be listed on the institutional eligibility form
 
In addition to the individual honors, the Bears also garnered the ITA All-Academic Team Award.  
 
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2018 and spring 2019).
