The medical crisis impacting the nation and the world has caused sports across the globe to come to a standstill for the time being. For example, the Olympics scheduled for the summer of 2020 in Japan has been postponed until 2021.
Â
While we wait on the sports world to get back on track, this is a good time to revisit the illustrious past of Morgan Athletics. Over the next few weeks we will tap into the archives for historic game recaps and stories.
Here's what happened on April 25, 1953:Â

Teammates At Penn Relays; Bears Capture 3 American, 2 Individual Titles
By Sam Lacy, AFRO
Â
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Little Morgan State College, Baltimore, Md., with a male enrollment of only 800 students, walked away with five of the 20 major championships in competition with the biggest colleges of the East and Midwest at the 59th Penn Relays here Friday and Saturday.

Â
Morgan captured three of the eight America relay championships, taking 440-yard title in 47.7 seconds, and the 800-yard title in 1:26.3. In addition, the Morgan freshman quartet won the Freshman Mile Relay championship in 3:19.3.
Â
Art Bragg won the 100-yard dash in 9.7 seconds, one-tenth of a second off the meet record, and Josh Culbreath took the 400-meter hurdles in 53.2 seconds to give Morgan two of the 12 individual championships.
Â
Sprint champion Art Bragg at the 59th Penn Relays.
Morgan missed making a triple in the big relay races when Howard Morgan, anchor runner, pulled up lame on the final leg of the one-mile relay championship, finishing third behind Manhattan College and Michigan University but beating out Oklahoma A.M.
Â
Bragg, 1952 Olympian, was Morgan's standout performer. He anchored the 440 and 880 foursomes and had to run a qualifying heat in the morning 100-yard sprint besides the three championship races on the afternoon program.
Bear Note:
Bragg was ranked among the best in the US and the world in both the 100m/100y and 200m/220y sprint events from 1950 to 1954, according to the votes of the experts ofÂ
Track and Field News.
