BALTIMORE, Md. (Dec. 20, 2020)-Morgan State will take to the road for the first time this season, when it visits crosstown rival Towson this Sunday, Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. at SECU Arena. It will be the first meeting between the two teams since the 2013-14 season. The contest will be steamed live on FloHoops.com ($).
 
2020-21 HOME PROTOCOLS: The 2020-21 season will begin without spectators in attendance at Hill Field House.
• The men's and women's basketball programs will adhere to NCAA guideline and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference policies and procedures, including COVID-19 testing protocols, while also operating in alignment with state and local public health officials.
• Hill Field House will operate with limited access only to include essential staff and personnel, including participating teams. Capacity restrictions will be reviewed on an ongoing basis and adjusted as allowed as public health conditions and recommendations improve.

MEN'S & WOMEN'S BASKETBALL RADIO: All home games and select away games for MSU men's and women's basketball will once again be available through Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN.com). Lamont Germany will handle play-by-play responsibilities and will also host pre-game and post-game shows, including exclusive interviews with members of the teams and women's coach Ed Davis Jr. and men's coach Kevin Broadus. BEAR CLAWS: Morgan State (3-0) enters the contest looking for its first 4-0 start since the 1983-84 season. The Lady Bears are coming off a 67-63 non-conference victory over Navy (12/19). The win extended its non-conference home court winning streak to six straight. Ashia McCalla scored a team-high 21 points to lead three Lady Bears in double figures scoring. Ja'Niah Henson scored 15 points and dished out a game-high seven assists, while Dahnye Redd added 12 points and pulled down a team-best nine rebounds. Morgan State has been led by Henson, who is scoring 15.3 points per game and leads the team in steals with eight. Redd is averaging a double-double with 14 points and a team-high 10.5 rebounds, while McCalla is also adding 14 points.
 
A LOOK AT TOWSON: The Tigers (4-1) have won two straight and are coming off a 113-63 victory over Salem (12/18). The 113 points set a program record for points scored in a game and marked the second consecutive game the Tigers reached the 100-point plateau. Towson, which had seven players score in double figures, was led by Aleah Nelson, Allie Kubek and Kionna Jeter, who all scored 17 points apiece. Shavonne Smith and Narrie Dodson each added 12 points and Skye Williams and Tarriyonna Gary scored 10 points each. Kubek grabbed 10 rebounds to record a double-double. TU has five players scoring in double figures. Jeter leads the way with 24 points per game and is pulling down 6.6 rebounds per contest and has a team-high 13 steals. Smith is averaging 15.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, while Nelson is contributing 14.2 points and a team-best 31 assists. Kubek is scoring 13.4 points and leads the Tigers in rebounding with 7.6 boards a game, while Dodson is chipping in with 12 points per outing. As a team, Towson is averaging 96.6 points per game and is surrendering 82.2 points a game.
 
MSU VS. TOWSON SERIES NOTES: Towson leads the all-time series, 15-10. Morgan State The two teams last met on Dec. 18, 2013 with Morgan State earning a 69-63 home victory over Towson to end a two-game losing skid to the Tigers.
  
CARPENTER RECEIVES MEAC DEFENSIVE HONOR: Graduate center Nina Carpenter was named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week (Dec. 8). Carpenter was a defensive force in her second game as a Lady Bear in the victory over Saint Peter's (12/5). The Las Vegas, Nev. native recorded a game-high five blocked shots, scored eight points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds (seven on the defensive end).
 
MORGAN IN SEASON OPENERS: The Lady Bears improved to 12-32 all-time in season openers dating back to 1977, following its 67-58 win against UMBC (11/25). The victory was just the second season opening win for the Lady Bears in eight years. Morgan State at one point had lost 23 straight season openers, prior to winning three straight from 2006-08.
 
PROTECTING THE 'HOUSE': MSU has picked up right where it left off last season, by defending its home floor, winning its first three home games to start this season. With Friday's win over Navy (12/19), the Lady Bears have now won seven straight and 14 of their last 15 home games dating back to a 70-47 win over rival Coppin State in the season finale during the 2018-19 season. Morgan closed out last season with a 10-1 record at Hill Field House. The Lady Bears' 10-1 record was the program's best home court mark since the 2017-18 team finished 10-3.
 
REDD EARNS COLLEGE SPORTS MADNESS HONOR: Senior Dahnye Redd was named Madness Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week (Nov. 30) by the staff of College Sports Madness. Redd recorded a double-double in the season opening win over UMBC (11/25). The Darby, Pa. native scored 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting and tied a game high with 12 rebounds. Redd also posted two assists in the win over UMBC.
 
MORGAN PICKED SECOND IN MEAC NORTH: Morgan State was picked to finish second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division preseason poll, as voted by the league's head coaches and sports information directors. The MEAC will move to division play for the 2020-21 season. The Lady Bears were picked to finish seventh last season and went 17-13 overall and finished 12-4 in the MEAC to finish the 2019-20 regular season tied for second and earned the No. 3 seed in the league tournament.
 
REDD, MCCALLA EARN PRESEASON ALL-MEAC HONORS: Senior guard Dahnye Redd was selected to the MEAC Preseason All-MEAC first team and junior guard Ashia McCalla was named to the second team. Redd averaged 13.4 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game last season. A third-team All-MEAC selection a year ago, Redd ranked seventh in the MEAC in scoring, fifth in rebounding, fifth in offensive rebounding (3.0), eighth in defensive rebounds (4.5), ninth in field goal percentage (.437), 10th in free throw percentage (.694) and 14th in blocked shots (0.8). A native of Darby, Pa., Redd reached double figures in scoring 21 times and had five double-doubles. She scored 24 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had a steal in the MEAC quarterfinal win over Delaware State (3/12) and added a career-high 26 points, six rebounds, two assists and two blocks at Saint Peter's (11/26). McCalla averaged 11.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game last season. She ranked 14th in the MEAC in scoring, fourth in three-point field goal percentage (.343) and fourth in three-point field goals made (58). McCalla reached double figures in scoring 17 times and was also second on the team in free throw shooting at 80% (56-of-70). The Greenbelt native set a career-high 31 points on 5-of-7 shooting from three-point range, hauled in a season-high eight rebounds and had two steals and an assist in the home opener against Notre Dame Maryland (11/8).
  
2021 MEAC TOURNAMENT: The 2021 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men's and women's basketball tournament is scheduled for March 8-13, 2021. First-round games will take place on campus sites, before moving to the Norfolk Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va. The annual MEAC Basketball Tournament moved to Norfolk in 2013 after spending the previous four years in Winston-Salem, N.C. from 2009 through 2012.
