Lady Bears Stung By Delaware State, 3-2

BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 29, 2019)-Zoe McBride recorded a match-high 25 kills and added 11 digs, but it wasn't enough, as visiting Delaware State earned a 3-2 (20-25, 19-25, 12-25, 29-31, 15-12) Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division victory over Morgan State on Sunday at Hill Field House.

Morgan State fell to 7-8, 1-1 MEAC, while Delaware State improved to 6-10, 1-1 MEAC. The loss was the Lady Bears' second at home this season in six opportunities.

The Hornets were led by Jordan Vang, who recorded 17 kills, while Anadys Valentin added 15. Jasmal Cruz collected a match-high 24 digs, while Jelena Dukic finished with a match-high 49 assists.

The Lady Bears, who were playing in their third consecutive five-set match and sixth of the season, fell to 4-2 in five-setters with the loss.

Delaware State finished with 53 kills for an attack percentage of .206. The guests used a set-best 17 kills in the fourth set to earn a 31-29 victory and force a decisive fifth set. The guests then hit a set-high .526 in Set 5, recording 10 kills on 19 attempts and no errors to secure a 15-12 win.

Morgan State's Mykaela Ross hit for a match-high .611, finishing with 12 kills on 18 attempts and only one error. Jennevy Santos had 14 digs, while Tylar Roberson added 12 digs to go with eight kills. Jasmin Hubbard collected four digs, to give her exactly 1,000 for her career and tie her with Dina Beamon (1,000 digs from 2008-10) for fourth all-time at Morgan State. 

The Lady Bears are off until Friday, Oct. 4, when they welcomes North Carolina Central to Hill Field House for a MEAC contest. First serve is at 7 p.m. and will be Alumni Night.
