BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 11, 2019)-The Lady Bears will make the program's first-ever trip to Portland, Oregon this week, when they compete in the Les Schwab Rose City Showdown, hosted by Portland State University (Sept. 13-14).
 
Morgan State (5-2), which is off to its best start in school history, will face three first-time opponents, when it visits Portland State at 12:30 p.m. PT, followed by Cal State Northridge at 5 p.m. PT on Day 1. The team closes out the tournament against Nevada on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. PT.  
 
MSU AGAINST THE FIELD: This will be the first meeting against all three opponents.
 
LAST WHISTLE: Morgan State improved to 5-2 on the season after going 2-1 last week in the Knights Fall Classic hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson. Morgan State defeated the host Knights and NJIT in three sets, before losing to Quinnipiac in the title match, 3-0.
 
NEXT UP: Morgan State closes out the non-conference portion of their schedule next week when it travels to the Nation's Capital to play in the Hoya Invitational (Sept. 20-21), hosted by Georgetown University. The Lady Bears square off against the host Hoyas at noon, before facing Florida International at 3 p.m. to close out the opening day. Morgan State will meet Binghamton on Saturday at 11 a.m.

HOMECOMING: Sophomore Zoe McBride will return to Portland where she was born and live for 2 1/2 years, before moving to Washington State. Her father Tim played football at Portland State.
 
MCBRIDE, WALLACE, BROWN EARN MEAC HONORS: Zoe McBride was named MEAC Co-Player of the Week, while Roi Wallace earned MEAC Setter of the Week and Sara Brown garnered MEAC Defensive Specialist of the Week honors (9/9). It was the second straight weekly honors for McBride and Wallace, who were also recognized (9/3). McBride concluded the week averaging 5.1 kills, 4.0 digs and a .253 attack percentage and had three double-doubles, including 20 kills and 10 digs, while hitting .432 against Siena. Wallace averaged 31.6 assists per match. She recorded her lone double-double of the week, finishing with 31 assists and 10 digs, while adding two kills, two blocks and an ace. Brown totaled 12 blocks, 17 kills and three digs for the week. She totaled a career-high five blocks, five kills with no errors to set a career-high .714 attack percentage against Quinnipiac.
 
LADY BEARS FALL SHORT AGAIN: For the second consecutive week the Lady Bears dropped a tournament final, this time falling to Quinnipiac in the title match of the Knights Fall Classic (9/7), hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson. It would be Morgan State's lone loss, while Quinnipiac finished 3-0. A week earlier, again by chance of the schedule, the Lady Bears entered its final contest of the Morgan/Towson Invitational against rival Towson, and suffered its lone loss, while the Tigers went unbeaten to capture the title.
 
MCBRIDE, ROBERSON  NAMED TO ALL-TOURNEY TEAM: Zoe McBride and Tylar Roberson were named to the All-Tournament Team at the Knights Fall Classic (9/7). McBride totaled a team-best 41 kills, 38 digs, finished second on the team with 10 blocks and had two double-doubles. Roberson notched 32 kills, 24 digs, two service aces, a block and a double-double in three matches.
 
BLOCK PARTY: Sara Brown recorded a team-leading 12 blocks and Zoe McBride added 10, to help the Lady Bears, who recorded 40 blocks as a team, to a 3-1 week (9/3-7). McBride set a career-high six blocks against Quinnipiac (9/7), while Brown set a career-high five blocks, also against Quinnipiac.  
 
TRACKING WALLACE TO 3,000 ASSISTS: Roi Wallace recorded 258 assists during the first two weeks of the season and is now 206 assists away from becoming just the third Lady Bear to reach 3,000 career assists. Wallace entered the season with a total of 2,536 career assists, which ranks third on the Morgan State charts. She currently has 2,794 assists. 
 
HUBBARD CLOSING IN ON 1,000 DIGS: Senior Jasmin Hubbard picked up a dig in the loss to Quinnipiac (9/7), giving her 977 career digs and is now 23 away from reaching the 1,000-digs plateau. The Reno, Nevada native entered the 2019 campaign with 974 career digs and is currently fifth all-time at Morgan State.
 
BOZIER ONE SHY OF 460: Morgan State head coach Ramona Riley-Bozier entered the 2019 season six wins shy of career victory No. 460. Following a 5-2 start, she is now one win away from victory No. 460. Riley-Bozier, who is the all-time winningest coach at Morgan State in any sport with 459 career victories as the volleyball coach, is also the softball program's all-time career leader with 161 victories in nine seasons at the helm. Riley-Bozier began 2019 ranked 33rd in career wins among active coaches on the NCAA's Division I coaching list.
