In the championship against top-seeded South Carolina State, Rawal battled to a 6-3, 6-4 win over Marcelo Rodriguez, to give the Bears  2-0 lead in the match, setting the stage for the Bears' historic 4-2 victory against the defending champions.

In doubles action, he and partner Oguzhan Ceylan went 3-0 at the No. 3 position, posting victories in the quarterfinals versus Florida A&M, in the semifinals against North Carolina Central and in the finals against South Carolina State.

"Nihit has played well for us all season, so his play in the tournament doesn't come as a surprise for us," said Townes. "We are extremely proud of his play, attitude, and leadership."

"Winning the MEAC's Most Outstanding Performer is an award he definitely earned."

This season, Rawal has posted an outstanding 15-5 record in singles during the spring season and has currently won nine straight matches. In doubles action, he owns a 13-4 record individually and has a 9-0 record at the No. 3 position with Ceylan.

After winning its first MEAC Championship on Saturday, Morgan State will now await the 2019 NCAA Men's Tennis Championship selection show on Monday, April 29, at 6 p.m. on NCAA.com to find out who it will face in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
