Morgan State Softball To Visit Maryland Eastern Shore

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 18, 2019)-The Morgan State softball team will travel to Princess Anne, Md. on Friday to visit the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (MDES) Hawks for a three-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series at Hawk Field. The series gets underway with a doubleheader on Friday at 1 p.m. and will conclude on Sunday with a single game at noon.
 
The Lady Bears (15-22, 6-3 MEAC) winners of seven of their last eight games, are coming off a series win at Howard last weekend, as they took 2-of-3 games from the Lady Bison. Morgan State dropped the opener, 5-4 in eight innings, which ended a season-long five-game winning streak, as well as a nine-game winning streak over Howard. Morgan State then regrouped to win the next two games by scores of 7-6 and 8-4 to capture its fourth straight series win over the Lady Bison.
 
Haylee Bobos led the Lady Bears over the weekend with a 7-for-12 performance, with two homeruns, including a grand slam, two runs and 7 RBI. Sarah Heagy batted .600 after going 6-for-10 at the plate with five runs and a RBI. Damali Young also recorded six hits on 12 plate appearances with two doubles, scored four runs and was 5-for-5 in stolen bases. Giselle Alvarez tallied four hits with two doubles and a homer, three runs scored and 4 RBI.
 
Stephanie Rundlett would make three appearances with two starts and finished with a 2-1 record for the week. Rundlett would pitch a total of 18 innings and threw 10 strikeouts.
 
Maryland Eastern Shore (7-26, 2-6 MEAC) is coming off a non-conference doubleheader split at home to Saint Peter's on Thursday. The Hawks would drop the opener 13-6, before winning the second game, 10-2 in six innings to end a four-game losing skid. The Hawks increased their 4-2 lead by scoring six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game.
 
Breana Florez went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and a game-high 4 RBI. Kamryn Lanier was 2-for-2 with a run. Allison Gingrich and Daeshia Jones each scored twice.
 
MDES pitcher Nasya Goodman earned the win and improved to 4-15 on the season. Goodman surrendered two runs on two hits, three walks and recorded four strikeouts in six innings of work.
 
MEAC wise, the Hawks have dropped five of their last six league contests, while Morgan State has won six of its last seven.
