BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 3, 2019)-Morgan State closed out its 2019 home schedule on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-13) sweep of Norfolk State on Senior Day, sending seniors Jasmin Hubbard and Roi Wallace out with one final home victory at Hill Field House.
The Lady Bears, who improved to 14-11 overall and 8-4 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), closed out their home schedule going 9-3 this season, including a perfect 4-0 on this homestand. The nine home victories are the most since the 2006 season, when that team finished 9-0 at home.
Playing in her final home contest, Wallace totaled a match-high 39 assists, seven digs and hit .500 with a kill in Sunday afternoon's win. She also set a career- and match-high seven service aces, surpassing her previous high of six she recorded earlier this season at Portland State (9/13). Hubbard finished with three digs and tied a season-high two assists in her last time at home.
Junior Tylar Roberson hit .385 with 11 kills and 10 digs to collect her 10th double-double of the season, as Morgan State avenged its loss to Norfolk State earlier in the season. Zoe McBride recorded a match-high 20 kills, while hitting .325 and adding 13 digs to record her 15th double-double. Jennevy Santos finished with a match-high 20 digs.
Norfolk State (1-21, 1-10 MEAC) was led by Anna Rupertova's six kills. Julisa Carrizosa had a team-high 10 digs and Jill Aquino tallied 14 assists.Â
Morgan State served up 10 aces for the match, while the Spartans had two aces and six errors. The Spartans held a 4.0-2.0 advantage in blocks. Bojana Bolozan and Jannel Ezeagwu each had two blocks. Morgan State was led by McBride who also had two.
The Lady Bears will be on the road for their final three divisional contests to conclude the regular season. First up will be a short trip to crosstown rival Coppin State for a crucial league match on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.
Morgan State and Coppin State met Oct. 29 with the Lady Bears winning 3-1 to improve to 64-12 all-time against the Eagles. Morgan State currently sits in second in the MEAC Northern Division standings, while Coppin State is in third.
Coppin State (11-15, 7-5 MEAC) was dealt a tough 3-2 loss at home to division leader Howard on Sunday. The Lady Bears defeated Howard just two days earlier by way of a sweep to hand the four-time defending champs its lone MEAC loss of the season.
