Bears Spoil Florida A&M's Home Opener, 6-0

Box Score TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Jan. 18, 2019) -- Morgan State men's tennis posted its first win of the 2019 season, blanking Florida A&M on Friday at the Rattlers Tennis Center. The Bears did not drop any sets in their finished matches, as they improved to 1-2 on the year and 1-0 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play.

"I'm happy with the way the guys played today," said MSU coach Matthew Townes. "We played a short handed team today, but we know they will be dangerous at the end of the year."

"It's nice to get the first win of the season." 
 
Morgan State won the first two doubles matches to start the day. The sophomore duo of Sebastian Lopez and Oguzhan Ceylan posted a 7-5, 5-4 win at No. 1 over Illya Skoromnyy and Luis Espinoza. Junior Nihit Rawal and sophomore Shrey Gupta  sealed the first team point in the top draw by holding off  Robert Hayden and Rodney Sturgis by a 6-3 margin.

The Bears continued to roll in singles play. Nihit Rawal recorded a 6-0, 6-2 win against Luis Espinoza at No. 2 singles, and senior Arjun Ramakrishnan followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Robert Hayden at No. 3.
 
Morgan State's Shrey Gupta topped Rodney Sturgis 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles to close out the sweep. 
 
 
Morgan State returns to action on Sunday when the Bears head to Philadelphia to face the Drexel Dragons. First serve is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the Riverwind Golf Club.
