GREENSBORO, N.C. (Jan. 19, 2019) – The Morgan State Bears dropped a 57-53 decision to North Carolina A&T on Saturday night at Corbett Sports Center. With the loss, the Bears fall to 7-11, 2-3 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, while the Aggies move to 9-9, 4-0 in conference play.
Junior guard
Stanley Davis led the Morgan State with 18 points and redshirt-junior forward
Jordan Little added his first double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Bears. Senior guard
Martez Cameron chipped in nine points and three assists.
Ronald Jackson led all scorers with 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Kaeron Langley dished 10 assists and scored the game-winning basket, and North Carolina A&T held on to post its fifth straight win.
Little scored on a jump hook just before the buzzer to trim the Aggies lead to 25-23 at the halftime. The Bears finished the first stanza with 13 turnovers and shot just 2 for 8 from the free throw line.
After the break, a jumper by Davis helped spark a 7-1 run by the Bears. Freshman guard Sherwyn Devonish-Prince hit a basket to give Morgan State a 30-26 lead with 17 minutes left to go.
The Bears stretched its lead to six points when junior forward
David Syfax buried a 3-pointer from the top of the key to put the Bears up 37-31, however the Aggies responded with an 8-2 run. Jackson finished with a fastbreak dunk to tie the game at 37 and the Aggies pulled ahead 49-47 on Andre Jackson's 3 with 5:52 to go.
The lead traded hands until Langley's driving floater in the lane put the Aggies up 55-53 with 56 seconds left.
Morgan State sophomore
Kyson Rawls missed a corner 3-pointer before Jackson iced it with two free throws.
Ibrahim Sylla scored 10 points and blocked four shots and Jackson had four steals for the Aggies (9-9, 4-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who were outrebounded 41-28 but forced 19 turnovers.
Morgan State was outscored in the paint by a 40-24 margin and the Aggies scored 24 points off of the Bears' 19 turnovers.
The Bears, who entered as the league's leader in free throws (74.5%), finished the night by converting 9 for 16 from the stripe, and was 2 for 13 from beyond the arc.
Morgan State takes on North Carolina Central at 4 p.m. Monday at McDougald-McLendon Arena.
