GREENSBORO, N.C. (Jan. 18, 2019)-The Morgan State women's basketball team will head to the Tar heel State this weekend for two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) road contests against its North Carolina foes. The Lady Bears will first take on the defending MEAC Tournament champion and preseason favorite, North Carolina A&T Lady Aggies on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. at the Corbett Sports Center. Morgan State will wrap up the trip with a visit to Durham to face the North Carolina Central Eagles on Monday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. at McDougal-McLendon Arena.
 
BEAR CLAWS: The Lady Bears (4-14, 2-2 MEAC) enter their contest against North Carolina A&T coming off a 79-56 loss at Howard (1/15). Adre'onia Coleman scored a game-high 20 points, had six rebounds and tallied a game-high two blocks and a team-high three steals. Kayla Horn finished with 11 points and Ashia McCalla came off the bench to add 10. Coleman has led the team in scoring this season, averaging 16.7 points per game and a team-best 8.2 rebounds per game. McCalla is scoring 9.1 points, while Jihayah Chavis is adding 8.1 points and has a team-leading 42 assists and to go with a team-high 35 steals.
 
DAWG BISCUTS: The Lady Aggies (6-10, 3-0 MEAC) have won three straight games, including a 51-49 victory at Maryland Eastern Shore (1/14). C'Coriea Foy led N.C. A&T with 12 points, while Alexus Lessears added nine points and two blocks. Mikaya Wilson finished with five steals and six assists, both game highs. Cinia McCray has led the team in scoring with 11.9 points and Foy is adding 11.3 points. Charnise Tyler and Le'on Hill are each pulling down a team-best 6.1 rebounds per game.
 
MSU VS. N.C. A&T SERIES NOTES: North Carolina A&T leads the all-time series, 39-21 and has won seven straight over the Lady Bears. Last season the Lady Aggies defeated Morgan State, 67-60 in the lone meeting between the two teams in Greensboro, N.C. (1/13/18).
 
EAGLE SCRATCHES: North Carolina Central (3-13, 0-3 MEAC) will host Coppin State on Saturday before facing Morgan State. The Eagles, losers of three straight and six of their last seven games, are coming off a 71-61 loss at Delaware State (1/14). Rodneysha Martin scored 15 points, while Paulina Afriyie finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Kieche came off the bench to score 13 points. NCCU has been led in scoring by Martin, who is averaging 16.1 points in nine games played. Afriyie has a team-best 9.0 rebounds to go with 13.3 points a game.
 
MSU VS. NCCU SERIES NOTES: Morgan State leads the all-time series, 10-5. Last season the Lady Bears had their three-game winning streak over North Carolina Central snapped, following a 60-57 loss in Durham (1/15).
 
NEXT UP: Morgan State will return home to face the Lady Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman on Saturday, Jan. 26. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. at Hill Field House.
 
COLEMAN EARNS COLLEGE SPORTS MADNESS HONOR: Adre'onia Coleman was named Madness Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday, Jan. 14 by the staff of College Sports Madness. Coleman averaged a double-double of 20.5 points and 11.5 rebounds last week to lead the Lady Bears. Coleman began the week scoring a game-high 24 points, while pulling down a game-high 15 rebounds, including 11 defensive against Savannah State (1/7). She then scored a team-high 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Lady Bears past South Carolina State (1/12).
 
FAITHFUL EIGHT: With the dismissal of three players prior to the start of the season due to conduct detrimental to the team, two players sitting out due to NCAA transfer rules and a fourth player removing herself from the team after just three games, the Lady Bears have gone into battle each game with eight strong and dedicated players. Despite a tough non-conference schedule and the shortage of numbers, the Lady Bears have fought in every game and have picked up their play since the start of the MEAC schedule.
 
LADY BEARS PICKUP BACK-TO-BACK WINS: Morgan State recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season, following victories over Savannah State (1/7) and South Carolina State (1/12). It was the Lady Bears' first two-game winning streak since Feb. 10-12, 2018, following road wins at Savannah State (2/10) and Florida A&M (2/12).
 
STILL SEARCHING: The Lady Bears are still in search of their first road victory of the season. Morgan State, which is 0-7 in true road games this season and a combined 0-10 away from Hill Field House, will have two more shots this weekend when it faces defending MEAC Tournament champion, North Carolina A&T (1/19) and again at North Carolina Central (1/21).
 
COLEMAN NAMED MEAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Senior guard/forward Adre'onia Coleman was named MEAC Player of the Week (1/8). It was her second MEAC weekly honor this season for Coleman, who also earned the award (11/20). The Baltimore native averaged a double-double for the week, recording 21 points and 14.5 rebounds per contest to help the Lady Bears to a 1-1 week. Coleman began the week with 18 points and 14 rebounds to go with two assists, two steals and a block against Maryland Eastern Shore (1/5). She then dropped a game-high 24 points and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds in a win over Savannah State (1/7). It was her third straight double-double and sixth of the season.
 
COLEMAN RECORDS SIXTH DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Adre'onia Coleman picked up her third straight and sixth overall double-double of the season in win over Savannah State (1/7). Coleman would score a game-high 24 points and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds. The Baltimore native would also add two assists in 38 minutes of play.
 
FARWELL: The Lady Bears' win over Savannah State (1/7) marked the final meeting in Baltimore between the two programs as members of the MEAC. Savannah State will leave the conference and return to the Division II level at the end of the 2018-19 academic calendar. Morgan State and the Lady Tigers will square off one final time during the regular season in their annual 'Orange & Blue' battle on Monday, Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m. at Tiger Arena in Savannah, Ga.

DAVIS RECORDS VICTORY No. 370: Morgan State head coach Ed Davis Jr. recorded career coaching victory 370, following the Lady Bears' win over UMass Lowell (12/29). Davis, who is in his seventh season with the Lady Bears and third as head coach, has an overall record of 372-293. He has guided his teams to a total of four NCAA Tournament appearances, while at Bowie State (3) and Delaware State (1) and two Division II Sweet 16 appearances.
 
COLEMAN HAS CAREER DAY: Senior Adre'onia Coleman scored a career-high 26 points in the Lady Bears' loss to UMBC (12/20). The 5-foot-10 forward, shot 8-of-16 from the floor, while adding six rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block against the Retrievers.
 
REMATCH: Five of the Lady Bears' non-conference opponents (Lincoln-Pa., Central Connecticut, Florida International, West Virginia, UMass Lowell) will be rematches from the 2017-18 campaign. Morgan State went 4-1 a year ago against those opponents with its lone loss coming at then 10th-ranked West Virginia. Morgan State finished 1-4 this season in those rematch games with the lone win coming against UMass Lowell (12/29).
 
LADY BEARS TAKE IN NBA GAME IN MOTOWN: The Lady Bears concluded their trip to Ann Arbor, Mich., by attending the Boston Celtics-Detroit Pistons game on Saturday, Dec. 15 at the new Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit. Following the game the team got to go on the court and attempt a free throw shot, before meeting and taking pictures with Celtics players Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. The host Pistons defeated Boston, 113-104. It was the first time the program caught an NBA game since 2014, when they went to Phillips Arena to see the home team Atlanta Hawks take on the Utah Jazz, prior to the Lady Bears' season opener at the University of Georgia.
  
DAVIS A THREE-TIME HALL OF FAMER: Morgan State head coach Ed Davis Jr. was inducted into his third Hall of Fame in September 2017, when his 2006-07 Delaware State women's basketball team was inducted for capturing the 2007 MEAC title. Davis was also inducted into the Bowie State University Hall of Fame in 2014 as a coach, where he guided the Lady Bulldogs to three CIAA titles and a pair of Division II "Sweet 16" appearances and in 2008 he was inducted into the West Virginia State University Hall of Fame as a basketball player.
