Lloyd Hylton Prepares For NCAA East Prelims

BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Morgan State men's track & field team will have a member of its squad set to kick off its run to the 2018 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend (May 24-26) when he heads to Tampa, Florida, to compete at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds set to begin Thursday afternoon at USF Track & Field Stadium.

The University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida will host the East Preliminary and California State University, Sacramento in Sacramento, California will host the West Preliminary.  The qualifiers out of these two regions will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 6-9 in Eugene, Oregon.

Morgan State senior Lloyd Hylton will be competing in the long jump and looks to earn a spot in the national semifinals as the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds run through Saturday. Hylton's season-best leap of 7.65-meters that he posted earlier this season at the Florida Relays currently ranks No. 58 in the nation.

The NCAA Selection Committee has accepted the Top 48 performers in each individual event and the Top 24 relay teams in both the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays to compete at each site serving as hosts of the NCAA Preliminary Rounds for a total of 96 individuals and 48 relays competing in all events nationwide with the goal of moving on to the national semifinals.

When competing at the NCAA Preliminary Rounds, the Top 12 finishers in each open and relay event will qualify for the semifinal and final rounds of the 2018 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships to be held at historic Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
