Lady Bears To Welcome Maryland Eastern Shore For MEAC Weekend Series

4/20/2018 10:24:00 PM

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 20, 2018)-The Morgan State softball team returns to action this weekend for a three-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (MDES) at Lois T. Murray Field. The Lady Bears will face the Hawks in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 21 at 1 p.m., before closing the series with a single game on Sunday at noon.

Morgan State (22-14, 10-2 MEAC), which is off to its best league mark in quite some time now, is one win away from matching last season's 23-win total. The Lady Bears have recorded back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since accomplishing that feat in 1997-98.

The Lady Bears, who are coming off a series split against Villanova on Wednesday, won the opener by a score of 1-0, before falling in the nightcap 5-2 in eight innings. The Game 1 victory extended Morgan State's season-long winning streak to 12 straight games.

Morgan State enters this weekend's series against Maryland Eastern Shore, having not lost a series in over a month when they dropped two-of-three to Hampton in the MEAC opener. During that span, Morgan State went 4-0-2 in its six series, including four consecutive series sweeps. The Lady Bears had also put together a string of 29 straight shutout innings, which came to an end in the first inning of Game 2 against Villanova.

The Hawks (4-29, 1-11 MEAC), losers of four straight and 12 of their last 13 games, are coming off a non-conference doubleheader loss at Saint Peter's on Wednesday. MDES was held scoreless in both games, falling 2-0 and 8-0.

The Lady Bears have won 22 of the last 24 meetings dating back to the 2010 season, including a sweep of the Hawks last season (April 22-23) in Princess Anne, Md. Maryland Eastern Shore's last victory over Morgan State was a 4-2 win in Baltimore on April 24, 2016.
