Women’s Tennis Blanks MDES In Regular Season Finale, 7-0

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 18, 2018)-The Lady Bears tennis team notched another Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) win on Tuesday, April 17, as they defeated the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (MDES) by a score of 7-0 in the regular season finale at the MSU Tennis Courts. The win secured the No. 2 seed out of the MEAC Northern Division for Morgan State at the upcoming conference championships (April 26-28) in Norfolk, Va.

Morgan State (9-12, 5-1 MEAC) captured the doubles point through wins at both the No. 1 and 2 positions, and by default on the third rubber, as the Lady Hawks (0-7, 0-2 MEAC) were unable to bring their full lineup.

The Lady Bears continued to dominate in singles, winning in straight sets at every position, and winning by default on the No. 6 spot. Senior Danielle Thompson continued making history for the program as she recorded her 52nd career win in singles, winning 6-1, 6-2 at the number one rubber.

"The number feels surreal. I am still taking it all in and trying to give myself credit for it," said Thompson, following her final home match of her career. "I am really motivated and hungry to finish off the season strong. I really appreciate all the love and support everyone has been giving me."

The 7-0 win for Morgan State concludes the regular season for women's tennis. Next up for the Lady Bears is the MEAC tennis tournament starting Thursday, April 26-Saturday, April 28 at the Folkes Tennis Center on the campus of Old Dominion University. Morgan State will be the second-seed out of the northern division and will now await its opening round opponent.
