Men's Tennis Pitch 7-0 Shutout at N.C. A&T

Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Morgan State men's tennis team (4-4) completed a 7-0 shutout of fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) member, North Carolina A&T (0-16) on Thursday afternoon at Barber Park in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The Bears earned its second straight shutout, having posted a 7-0 win on the road in their last encounter against Loyola on March 15. MSU moves to 1-0 in conference play, while the Aggies fall to 0-3.

"We played well today, to move to .500 on the season," said MSU coach Matthew Townes. "We had really tight matches in three of the singles matches that could have went either way."

"We dominated in doubles and that set the tone for the rest of the match, and it's a great win in our conference."

The day began with MSU claiming the doubles point as the tandem of freshmen Oguzhan Ceylan and Sebastian Lopez claimed a 6-2 victory.  Followed by a 6-1-match victory by the pairing of sophomore Nihit Rawal and freshman Shrey Gupta. Senior Lucas Krusinski and freshman Serhii Kharchez also posted a 6-1 doubles victory.

Krusinski, the reigning MEAC Player of the Week, recorded a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Dreshaun Jarmon in No. 1 singles, while Gupta, the MEAC's reigning Rookie of the Week, battled to a 6-3, 7-5 (10-7) win against Adair Bartra at No. 2 singles. The No. 3 match ended with Sebastian Lopez claiming a 6-1,6-2 victory over Jorge Goenaga.

Rawal posted another convincing Bears victory as he surpassed Hayden Faulkenbury at 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5. In the No. 6 slot, Kharchez fell into an early deficit with the first set going to the Aggies' Brett Caban at 6-4. Kharchez rallied in the second set for a 6-4 victory, and later a 10-7 win in the third set to take the match.

MSU will continue its current road swing with its next opponent coming on Friday against the North Carolina Central Eagles. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
