Hampton Takes Series From Lady Bears With 4-1 VIctory

Box Score HAMPTON, Va. (March 18, 2018)-The Morgan State Lady Bears were searching for their first series victory over Hampton since 2011, when Morgan State won two of the three games.
 
Unfortunately, Morgan State would fall short in that quest, as the host Lady Pirates defeated the Lady Bears, 4-1 in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Lady Pirates Stadium.
 
Hampton (11-13, 2-1 MEAC) claimed its seventh straight series win over Morgan State, while the Lady Bears fell to 9-12, 1-2 in the MEAC.
 
Morgan State got on the board in the top of the third inning when Caitlyn Williams hit a single just over the pitcher's reach, which allowed Jalian Young to score from second.
 
Hampton tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third and added another run in the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead.
 
The Lady Pirates increased their lead to 4-1 with two runs in the sixth inning.
 
Stephanie Rundlett threw a game-high six strikeouts in the loss.
 
The Lady Bears will be off until next weekend when they return to non-conference play during the Mount St. Mary's Tournament (Saturday, March 24-Sunday, March 25).
 
Morgan State will open up on Saturday against Albany at 2 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. contest against Siena. The Lady Bears will conclude the tournament on Sunday with games against Albany at 12 p.m. and host Mount St. Mary's at 4 p.m.
