HARRISONBURG, Pa. (Feb. 17, 2018)-The Morgan State women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 non-conference decision to James Madison (JMU) on Saturday at the East Campus Tennis Courts, JMU's indoor practice facility. The Lady Bears fell to the Dukes in a match that was more competitive than what the numbers showed.
The loss was the second straight for Morgan State (1-4), whose four losses have all come by way of shutout. JMU improved to 6-0 on the season.
At the No. 1 doubles, senior
Danielle Thompson and freshman
Asmara Faluke came close to capturing the match, but fell 7-5. Despite the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams being split up and rearranged last minute, Morgan State gave a good fight against the Dukes, but ultimately dropped all three doubles.
In singles, the Lady Bears faced a strong JMU lineup, and fell in all six positions.
"At some point we have to…compete at the level of competition presented to us," said Morgan State head coach
Matthew Townes. "We aren't tired of losing yet apparently, so until we correct ourselves in practice and in our minds, we could continue to drop a lot of matches this season. Today's match was better than VCU, but not nearly where we want to be right now. Tomorrow is a new day, and I'm ever excited to get back to work."
Morgan State will have an opportunity to bounce back very soon, as the team travels to Arlington, Va. on Wednesday, Feb. 21, to play Georgetown University.
