Rival Coppin State Spoils Lady Bears’ Senior Day

BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 4, 2018)-Playing in her final home contest at Hill Field House, senior captain Monette Daniels hit .500 with a team-high 12 kills, but it wasn't enough, as visiting Coppin State spoiled Morgan State's home finale on Senior Day, 3-1 (25-20, 25-17, 20-25, 25-22) on Sunday afternoon.

Fellow seniors Cristen Coryatt recorded 10 kills, while Kheanna Landrum added four kills, two digs and a match-high two service aces in their final home appearance.

Zoe McBride fell short of a double-double with 10 kills and nine digs, Kalysia Bates contributed eight kills and Jasmin Hubbard totaled 12 digs. Roi Wallace recorded 39 assists, seven digs and added three kills, while hitting for .333 for the Lady Bears.

After starting the season winning its first five home contests, Morgan State, which is on a four-match losing skid, would then drop its remaining four home matches. The Lady Bears (12-13, 4-4 MEAC), who completed a six-match homestand, would go just 2-4. 

Coppin State (10-19, 4-4 MEAC) received a match-high 19-kill performance out of Miajavon Coleman, while Asia Stennis finished with 12 kills. Christa Johnson added 11 kills and had a hitting percentage of .458 and Chelsie Kolibar recorded a match-high 15 digs. Brianna Lang tallied a match-high 47 assists and finished with five kills and a hitting percentage of .714. 

Sunday's win allowed Coppin State to earn a season split with the Lady Bears, as both teams won on the other's home floor.

For the match, Coppin State finished with 56 kills and had an attack percentage of .279. The Eagles recorded double digit kills in all four sets, including a high of 16 kills in the fourth set.

Morgan State tallied 47 kills and hit .248. Morgan State recorded a set-high 15 kills in the third set, the lone set the Lady Bears won.

The Eagles held an 8.0-5.0 block advantage over Morgan State. Bates and McBride led the Lady Bears with a match-high four blocks, apiece.

The Lady Bears will now look to put an end to their four-match losing skid when they visit Delaware State on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. in Dover, Del.
