BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 28, 2018)-Anna Rupertova recorded a match-high 16 kills and Bojana Bolozan hit for .818 with nine kills on 11 attempts to lead visiting Norfolk State past Morgan State, 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 28-26) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division match on Sunday afternoon at Hill Field House.
Bojana added four blocks, including three solo, while Halley McKnight and Jill Aquino shared the duties at setter, recording 16 and 13 assists, respectively. Brenna Ankrum had a match-high 13 digs and Taylor Eichelberger finished with 11 digs, as the Spartans improved to (3-14, 2-5 MEAC).
After winning its first five home contests of the season, including the first two matches during this current six-match home stand, Morgan State (12-12, 4-3 MEAC) has now lost three straight at home. The loss to Norfolk State was the Lady Bears' second straight MEAC loss in as many matches to start the second half of the league slate, after starting 4-1 in league play.
The Lady Bears were led by Zoe McBride, who recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs. Mykaela Ross, who was making her second straight start at the Libero position, led the team with a match-high 13 digs. Triniti Smith finished with 10 assists and Brook Adams added nine.
Norfolk State finished the afternoon with 41 kills and hit for a .209. The Spartans would record double digit kills in all three sets, including a set best 15 kills in the final set. Norfolk State also had a set-best .391 hitting percentage in the opening set, when it tallied 12 kills on 23 attempts with three errors. The guests would out block Morgan State, 7.0-5.0.
The hosts recorded 28 kills, but committed 23 errors for a hitting percentage of .047. The Lady Bears totaled a set-high 10 kills in the opening set and was held to nine kills each in the final two sets.Â
Morgan State will close out both the 2018 home schedule and its six-match home stand on Sunday, Nov. 4 when they welcome crosstown rival Coppin State. The contest will also mark Senior Day for four Lady Bears: Kheanna Landrum, Monette Daniels, Cristen Coryatt and Deja Lester, who will be playing in their final home contest at Hill Field House. First serve will be at 3 p.m.
