BALTIMORE, Md. (May 5, 2017)-Morgan State's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series finale against Hampton has been rescheduled for this weekend due to inclement weather. The three-game series was to begin today and will now get underway with a single game on Saturday, May 6 at 3 p.m. and will conclude with a doubleheader on Sunday, May 7 beginning at noon. All three contests will be played at Lois T. Murray Field.
Hampton (19-20, 14-1 MEAC), which sits atop the MEAC Northern Division, enters the contests riding a six-game winning streak, following back-to-back MEAC series sweeps of Coppin State and Norfolk State. Last weekend the Lady Pirates moved into sole possession of first-place in the northern division with the sweep of rival Norfolk State, which included Hampton scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the opener and needing nine innings to win the finale against the Spartans.
The Lady Bears (23-18, 12-3 MEAC) are currently on a three-game losing skid, after dropping a non-conference doubleheader series on Wednesday at Villanova. Last weekend, Morgan State dropped two of three games on the road to rival Coppin State, which knocked the Lady Bears out of first-place in the division. It was the first conference series loss for Morgan State this season.
The Lady Bears will need to win all three games against Hampton in order to claim their first-ever northern division crown, since the league moved to division play in 2008. However, if Morgan State was to drop all three games, then it would fall from second-place to third. Delaware State (17-25, 13-5 MEAC), which the Lady Bears defeated twice out of the three games, would secure the No. 2-seed for next week's league tournament by way of a better conference record than Morgan State.
