BALTIMORE, Md. (April 13, 2017)-The Morgan State women's tennis team extended its winning streak to three straight after picking up two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division victories on Thursday afternoon after defeating both Delaware State and Coppin State. Both matches were played at the CSU Tennis Courts on the Coppin State campus.
The Lady Bears first defeated Delaware State by a score of 4-1 in a make-up match which was originally scheduled for Sunday, April 9 at the MSU Tennis Courts. Morgan State then defeated host Coppin State, 4-2.
Morgan State improved to 7-15 overall with the wins and 4-1 in MEAC action. Delaware State fell to 3-3, while Coppin State dropped to 3-10, 2-3 MEAC).
"We took two big steps forward in the conference with these wins," said Morgan State head coach
Matthew Townes. "The ladies stepped on the gas early and never let up. We didn't lose one set all day long. The last test for us is coming up on Saturday at home against Norfolk State. It's Senior Day, so we are definitely expecting a great crowd. I'm proud of the efforts and we are peaking at the perfect time."
The Lady Bears conclude their MEAC regular season with a contest against Norfolk State for Senior Day on Saturday, April 15 at the MSU Tennis Courts. A win by the Lady Bears and they will wrap up the No. 2 seed in the MEAC Northern Division.
