Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 19, 2017)-Playing for the first time this season in front of the Morgan State faithful, the Lady Bears' softball team earned a 4-2 non-conference victory over Marist on Sunday afternoon at CSU Softball Field on the Coppin State campus.
While Morgan State's official home opener isn't until Wednesday, March 15 against Mount St. Mary's at the newly refurbished Lois T. Murray Field, the Lady Bears felt right at home for a change, playing in a facility that hasn't been too kind to them historically.
Morgan State (4-2) improved to 4-18 all-time with the win at CSU Softball Field since it was built in 2010.
Sunday's contest was added to Morgan's schedule last week as part of a doubleheader for Marist, who earlier in the day first squared off against host Coppin State and won, 6-3.
The Red Foxes (2-2), who split their season opener on Saturday at Norfolk State, took a 2-0 lead on Morgan State in the top of the third inning. Miranda Perez singled through the left side to drive in Brandi Coon and Casey Page later stole home to give the guests a 2-0 lead.
Morgan State would get the two runs back and then some in the very next inning, scoring four runs in the fourth inning with two outs to take a 4-2 lead.
Audrianna Alvarez hit a two-out triple to right center.
Korynna Lara would reach base on an error by the left fielder and Alvarez scored the Lady Bears' first run.
Alyssa Blanco, who was pinch running for Lara, would advance to second on a passed ball and
Haylee Bobos hit a two-run homer to left field to give the Lady Bears the lead for good at 3-2.
Rachel Daugherty added the fourth run of the inning when she scored on a throwing error on the Marist catcher.
