BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 17, 2017)–The Morgan State softball team has added a game to its schedule and will now take on the Marist Red Foxes this Sunday, Feb. 19 in a non-conference game at Coppin State Field on the campus of Coppin State University. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m., following Marist's game against host Coppin State at noon.
Morgan State (3-2) is coming off a successful season opening weekend at the Dot Richardson Invitational in Clermont, Fla. (2/10-12). The Lady Bears began the tournament with two wins on the opening day against Tennessee Chattanooga and Fairleigh Dickinson for their first 2-0 start since 2009.
Junior pitcher
Amy Begg was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for her performance in the tournament. A native of Christchurch, New Zealand, Begg recorded a 3-0 record and tallied an ERA of 0.00. Begg would throw 18 strikeouts in 16.2 innings of work and surrendered just one unearned run on 11 hits.
The Red Foxes begin the season this Saturday, Feb. 18 with a doubleheader at Norfolk State. First pitch of game one is scheduled for noon.
In 2016, Marist won a program-record 45 games and appeared in NCAA Regionals for the third time in program history. This season, sophomore infielder Claire Oberdorf was chosen Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Co-Preseason Player of the Year, and the Red Foxes were picked to finish first in the conference's preseason coaches' poll.
