BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 12, 2017)-The Lady Bears travel to the Nation's Capital on Monday, Feb. 13 to take on the Howard Lady Bison in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game at 6 p.m. at Burr Gymnasium in Washington, D.C. It will be the only meeting this season between the two Beltway rivals.
BEAR CLAWS: Morgan State (3-19, 1-8 MEAC) enters the contest on a two-game winning streak, after winning the final two games of its three-game homestand. The Lady Bears defeated Delaware State, 74-47 in their last outing on Saturday. The 74 points were the second most scored by Morgan State this season, behind the 79 points scored in the second game of the season against Washington Adventist (11/17).
Zuri White, Jihaya Chavis and
Braennan Farrar led the Lady Bears with 12 points each.
Chelsea Mitchell and
Tykyrah Williams both added 10 points.
Janessa Fauntroy came off the bench to score a career-high eight points on 3-for-3 shooting, including 2-for-2 from the free throw line and had two rebounds in eight minutes of play. White led the way with a game-high eight rebounds and Williams added seven. Morgan State has been paced by Farrar (12.1 ppg) and Williams (10 ppg). Williams and White lead the Lady Bears in rebounding with 5.7 boards a game.
BISON HOOVES: Howard (11-11, 7-3 MEAC) is coming off a thrilling 67-62 road victory at Hampton on Saturday to end a two-game losing streak. The win was the first for the Lady Bison in Hampton since Jan. 21, 2002. Sydni Johnson scored a team-high 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 3-for-3 from three-point range, while Sarah Edmond came off the bench to also shoot 6-of-10 and finished with a career-high 15 points. Jayla Myles added nine points on 4-for-4 shooting and tallied a game-high five blocked shots, while Erin Blaine led the Lady Bison with nine rebounds. Howard has been led by Te'Shya Heslip, who is averaging 15.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, while Johnson is adding 11.8 points per outing. Blaine is chipping in with 9.8 points and a team-leading 5.9 rebounds.
MSU VS. HU SERIES NOTES: Howard leads the all-time series, 49-18, but Morgan State has won the last three meetings. The Lady Bison had won the previous five contests, before the Lady Bears' current three-game winning streak. Morgan State defeated Howard, 78-66 in last season's lone meeting in Baltimore (1/30/16).
NEXT UP: Morgan State will host the Savannah State Lady Tigers on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. at Hill Field House. Savannah State won the first meeting this season, 66-62 in overtime on Jan. 21 in Savannah, Ga.
ROAD STRUGGLES: The Lady Bears have struggled on the road this season and are 1-14 away from Hill Field House. Morgan State's lone road victory came at Maryland Baltimore County (12/7), a 69-62 win.
TWO STRAIGHT: Morgan State recorded its first two game-winning streak of the season, following its 74-47 victory over Delaware State on Saturday. It is the first multi-game winning streak since the Lady Bears won five straight last season from Jan. 30-Feb. 13.
MOVING UP: Braennan Farrar scored 12 points in the win over Delaware State (2/11), giving her 1,107 points for her career. Farrar, who ranks 11th all-time at Morgan State, is now 21 points away from passing Carla Thomas (1,117 points from 1984-87) for 10th-place.
ALL FIVE INVOLVED: For the first time this season, all five starters scored in double figures in the Lady Bears' victory over Delaware State (2/11). Morgan State's starting five combined for 56 of the 74 points scored in a 74-47 win over the Hornets.

IT'S OVER: The Lady Bears' season-long 13-game losing streak came to an end, following a 44-42 victory over North Carolina Central (2/4). The streak surpassed the five-game losing skid Morgan State had earlier in the season and was the longest losing skid for the program since the 2013-14 squad lost 15 consecutive games.
IT TAKES A THEIF: The Lady Bears have recorded 256 steals as a team in 23 games played thus far, surpassing the 249 steals a season ago in 30 games played. Breannan Farrar leads the way with a team-best 52, while
Tykyrah Williams has 33 steals.
Chelsea Mitchell,
Jihayah Chavis and
Jayde Duncan are adding 30, 30 and 26 steals, respectively.
MEAC STREAK COMES TO AN END: The Lady Bears picked up their first MEAC victory of the season with a 44-42 victory over North Carolina Central (2/4) at Hill Field House. Prior to the victory, Morgan State had dropped its last 11 straight MEAC regular season contests, dating back to the last three games from the 2015-16 season. Ironically Morgan State's previous regular season MEAC victory also came against North Carolina Central (2/20/16), a 66-55 victory at home.
SEE YOU SOON: Morgan State and Delaware State will meet twice this season in a span of nine days. Following this afternoon's contest, the two will close out their regular season series on Monday, Feb. 20 at 5:30 p.m. at Memorial Hall in Dover, Del.
MORGAN AND COPPIN IN HOME FINALE: The Lady Bears and crosstown rival Coppin State will meet in the home finale for Morgan State on Monday, Feb. 27. Tip-off will be at 5:30 p.m. at Hill Field House. The contest will also mark 'Senior Day' for
Ivy Harrington, and former Lady Bear and manager
Britashia Burns. Graduate student
Jayde Duncan will also be playing in her final home game.
LADY BEARS ASSIST ORANGEBURG COMMUNITY: During the Lady Bears' trip to Orangeburg, SC (1/22-23), the team took some time out to collect and donate toiletries to go towards helping a total of 10 families get back on their feet after they were recently displaced when the Roosevelt Gardens apartment complex caught fire a week earlier in the Orangeburg area.
NATIONAL RANKINGS: Morgan State currently ranks 30th in the nation in turnover margin at 4.73 per game. DePaul sits ahead of the Lady Bears at 29th at 4.80. Lamar leads the nation at 9.55 per contest. Morgan State is also 45th in the nation in scoring defense, holding its opponents to 58 points per outing.
