PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (Oct. 3, 2017)-Rachel Kayongo hit for a .524 and recorded a double-double with a match-high 12 kills and 10 digs to lead Maryland Eastern Shore (MDES) to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-19) sweep of Morgan State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division match on Friday at the Hytche Center.
Carolina Machado also had a double-double with 26 assists and a team-high 11 digs, while hitting for .750 with three kills for MDES, who has now won eight of its last nine contests. Iva Vujosevic fell shy of a double-double with 10 digs and nine kills. Vujosevic also tallied a match-high six service aces.
MDES (23-7, 9-0 MEAC) finished the match with 38 kills and hit .372 as a team. The Lady Hawks totaled a set-high 16 kills and hit for .484 in Set 2. MDES also recorded nine service aces and held a 4.0-0.0 blocking advantage over the visiting Lady Bears.
Keana Browne and Natashia Barker each had five kills to lead the Lady Bears, who fell to 5-17 overall, 4-5 in MEAC play and had their season-long two-match winning streak snapped. Jasmine Hubbard recorded a match-high 12 digs and Mykaela Ross added 10. Roi Wallace finished with 14 assists in the loss.
Morgan State, which now holds a 42-22 all-time series lead over MDES, was limited to just two kills in the opening frame, while hitting for a -.143. The guests would finish with a set-best 10 kills in Set 3 with a .091 percentage. The Lady Bears finished the match with 18 kills and hit for a .012 for the evening.
The Lady Bears will be back in action on Sunday, Nov. 5 when they visit the Lady Hornets of Delaware State. First serve is at 3 p.m. at Memorial Hall in Dover, Del. Delaware State. Coppin State defeated the Lady Hornets, 3-1 on Friday in Dover.
