BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 11, 2017)-Sunday's regular season finale against crosstown rival Coppin State will mark the final time that Morgan State seniors
Michaela Collins and
Keana Browne will play in front of the Hill Field House crowd as a member of the Lady Bears' volleyball team.
Â
First serve for Sunday's Coppin State contest is at 3 p.m. Collins and Browne will be honored prior to the match.
"Michaela is a young lady who has shown a lot of maturity from the first time she set foot on the campus," said Morgan State head coach
Ramona Riley-Bozier. "Since coming to Morgan, she always had some tough competitors in front of her who made it tough for her to get in and stay in a starting position. So her role seemed to change every year.
"This year, she saw some time in the starting line-up and Michaela became one of our best, efficient, most consistent and toughest servers. I am very proud of Michaela, who is graduating early December 2017 and will begin applying for graduate school. She has managed to maintain a 3.8 GPA and I'm happy to be a part of her journey. The best is yet to come for Michaela."
"Time really flew by," said Collins of her four year career coming to a close. "Being a part of this team taught me many life lessons, and I'm just so grateful that i got to be a part of it for my entire time at Morgan.
"I honestly might cry when I hear my name called for the last time. It's going to be emotional because my mother came all the way from California to see me play one last time."
Collins added, "I will miss my teammates the most. I think it will be a hard transition from seeing these girls everyday to seeing them on occasion once I graduate."
"Senior Day came way quicker than I thought it would," said Browne. "It will be bittersweet to hear my name called just one last time because it came so fast. I'm also very excited for the occasion though because it's another big milestone that I've reached in life. I'll miss the feeling I get before playing games, the rivalries and the celebration of each big play/win."
"My most memorable volleyball moment over the last four seasons would have to be beating Howard my sophomore year (Fall 2015) and also this season," added Browne. "Howard is also a big rivalry and people always doubt the talent and fight of the underdogs in a contest. That feeling of taking a win against them is definitely one of the best."
Coming off a big win on Friday night at rival Howard, both Browne and Collins agree that it's only fitting that the final home contest of their Morgan State careers comes against another rival, in crosstown foe Coppin State.
"The Morgan-Coppin rivalry is always so thrilling and competitive. The feeling on the court is always electric," said Browne. "I'm actually really glad we're playing them for 'Senior Day' because that'll make the game that much more competitive. I'll definitely miss being a part of the Morgan-Coppin rivalry game."
Â
"My most memorable moment is playing at Coppin for the first time, my freshman year. That rivalry will be unforgettable," said Collins. "When the schedule came out and I saw Coppin for 'Senior Day', I was pumped. Coppin games are always intense and I cannot wait to play them one last time at home. Keana [Browne] and I are ready to go out with a bang!"
