BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 25, 2016)-The Morgan State volleyball team completed its MEAC opening weekend with a perfect 2-0 mark, following a 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 26-24) sweep of visiting Norfolk State on Sunday afternoon at Hill Field House.
The win marks the second straight season that Morgan State started the conference slate at 2-0 and in first place in the northern division standings.
Keana Browne led Morgan State with a match-high 15 kills and Natashia Barker added 11 for the Lady Bears, who improved to 2-14, 2-0 in the MEAC. Browne also added a match-high four blocks, while Barker had a match-high three service aces. Roi Wallace finished with 35 assists and Jasmine Hubbard totaled 17 digs.
Norfolk State (2-11, 1-1 MEAC) was led by Jessica Johnson's team-high 12 kills, while Jill Aquino finished with a team-leading 30 assists. Melvina Brown totaled 17 digs to lead the Spartans, who have now dropped their last three meetings to Morgan State.
Morgan State will try for its third consecutive victory when it hosts defending MEAC Tournament champion and co-division leader, Howard (12-5, 2-0 MEAC) on Thursday, Sept. 29 with sole position of first-place on the line. First serve is at 7 pm at Hill Field House.
